Spring brings promise of renewal
7. March 2010 by admin.
Spring is almost upon us. I see hints of grass starting to peek through melted snow. The air seems cleaner, the climate; warmer. When I step out into the day, I can hardly wait for Spring to be in full swing.
With the changing of the seasons, many find their spirit becomes more active, like they’re becoming a live once again. What occurs without also occurs within. Sometimes, people are unsure of how to begin to renew their souls. Sometimes, they feel “stunted”.
That’s where spiritual services can help. By realigning your energy systems, such as what occurs in Reiki, you allow your inner chi to flow more freely. It opens you to new possibilities and ideas; sparking your inner flame.
Perhaps a spiritual counseling session is in order. Spiritual counseling assists us in overcoming emotional blocks so that we may be happier and more productive in our lives. Through various techniques discussed with a Spiritual counselor you can find new ways to achieve spiritual goals for your greater good.
If you feel as though something is missing in your life, Shamanic Healing may be something to consider. Often times during moments of extreme stress in our lives, parts of our inner self “hide”. It is a defense mechanism that few are aware of. We realize that something is missing in our lives. For example, maybe you suffered from a traumatic relationship, and now you find yourself unable to give or receive love again. You may feel less inspired, non-communicative, resentful. Shamanic healing can bring you back together so that you may move forward.
It may be time for a ceremony. Perhaps a fresh smudging/blessing of your house will help get the home energy flowing positively. Maybe a renewal of vows with your beloved or a family celebration is in order.
There are many ways to renew your spirit and prepare for the year ahead. We spend so much time cleaning our yards, painting our homes, washing our cars to get off the winter sludge, why neglect the inner self?

Website has been updated! Cleaner, Easier to use!
12. February 2010 by admin.
I’m very happy with the changes made to the Mother Earth Market website. Now each page is cleaner, and easier to navigate along with clickable “Return to the Top” functions so you don’t have to scroll up and down as much. Also, for Soy Candles, Bath Salts and Handmade Soaps, individual pages are linked to them to show you scents available and descriptions of those scents. I will be updating them more during this week. When things in the “What’s New” area transfer over, the scents will be linked as well so as not to clutter up the shopping pages. Enjoy the new pages, and as always, anything you don’t see, please email me or call, I’m sure I can find it for you!
Many Blessings,
Rev. Kimberly

Conscious Shopping
1. February 2010 by admin.
When you go to shop, you’re overwhelmed by the variety of available stores, brands, sizes, colours… it can be very exasperating to say the least. People tend to become “numb” to the idea of where their items come from and how these items are made.
When mass marketing stores like Walmart, Target, Dollar Stores came into power, people as a whole changed their shopping habits. Quantity overtook quality. Mass produced clothes to toys to even the food you put on your table. You have many selections, but have given up on originality, quality and a sense of connection with whom you bought from.
It isn’t easy to divert your attention from those products when advertising uses catchy tunes, flashy commercials, famous actors and sports stars to endorse products. We have become gluttons in our shopping styles.
But, it can change. You can change. The World indeed can change.
Handmade items are making a comeback because people are looking for new spins on things and realizing the quality that goes into those handmade goods. Think about a mass produced sweater… now compare it to a hand knit sweater. Which would you prefer? I know I’d choose the hand knit sweater. It lasts longer, and it has more character than a mass produced sweater that often does not meet the expectations I would expect where quality is concerned. I have sweaters that I wore as a small child that my grandmother knit me. I then put those sweaters on my children and am saving them for their children. You see, things were made to last, and the stitches were cast with love.
When you buy something handmade or local, there’s a face, not a machine that goes with that item. You earn a sense of pride that you have done something good for yourself and the small hand made business you bought it from. You have something original and of a special quality that you would not receive from a chain store.
Buying local is pretty self explanatory as well. When you buy from a local business you’re putting revenue back into your local market. Money stays where it should, and everyone thrives. Small business owners give back to their communities in many ways and get to know their clientele on a more personal level then most big businesses. You gain a rapport with your customer base, and you become an anchor in the local community.
Eco conscious buying is as important as local and handmade. When you buy from a green certified business you know that that company and YOU are leaving a smaller carbon foot print, thus helping renew natural resources. When you see a Green Certified business, don’t just take for granted that because they have the seal, they follow the guidelines, but do a little homework. For example, does said business practice what they preach? Things like minimal, recycled packaging, items they use in their products, etc.
Making small changes to how you buy things doesn’t have to happen overnight. Just take a personal challenge. Buy yourself one item from a local, handmade, green business and see what you think. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised, and you will find that you’ll want to continue to buy this way.

What is your impression of Tarot Readings?
13. January 2010 by admin.
Have you ever had a tarot reading done? If so, what did you like or dislike about it? Would you have another done?
Tarot has been steeped in mystery for centuries, dating back to reading playing cards to tell the future. Each suit would represent an element and each number would have its own interpretation into the meaning. Even the colours: red and black had their own representation.
Today’s tarot cards are as varied and unique as individuals. Some people like to stick to the Rider-Waite decks as they are basic and the best to learn on when just starting. Others like to try other decks, including Animal Tarot, Celtic Cards, the list goes ever on.
I collect decks. I have about 10 decks of different sorts right now. I like to see the artist’s interpretations on what each card represents.
Today’s tarot readers do not necessarily use tarot for “fortune telling”. Tarot can give insight into where a person’s been, where they’re at now and where they’re heading. The cards can bring out repetitive patterns that the client has had in their lives, making them more aware of bad habits, relationships, jobs, etc. It goes beyond simple “Will I marry a tall dark handsome man”or “Will I be rich”.
I get people from all walks of life coming for tarot counseling. The cards connect the reader to a subconscious state of mind, the pictures giving clues into the querent’s life.
When I do readings, I don’t ask for personal items, birthdates, etc. I am not saying those that do are not reliable, just for me personally, I don’t need any of those things. I simply have the person ask their questions and then I read the cards for them.
Remember too that the cards are awareness, not set in stone. I love to see clients’ faces when they see something that perhaps they knew, but didn’t want to face themselves. For example the cards continually show discord with a motherly figure, and the client may say “Wow, that’s true! I don’t get along with my (mom/grandmother/mother in law) and that has affected my relationship with (My family/my spouse/my children/other women).”
I feel tarot can truly be validated as a wonderful form of spiritual direction and counseling. I hope that by going to reputable tarot readers, people will push aside the ideas of parlour tricks and see the tarot as a valuable tool.

During the hustle and bustle of the gift giving season…
12. December 2009 by admin.
During the craziness that comes after the Thanksgiving, please don’t allow yourselves to become so bogged down by the commercialism of the season that you forget about what’s really important: Family and Loved Ones. The focus is so completely off the simplicity and reconnection with family and friends… we have “Black Friday” the most dreaded shopping day of the year. People that are normally known as loving and caring become animalistic and fight over items reduced at ungodly hours of the morning. Shoving, fights, rude chaotic disorder… stepping back and reflecting on this behaviour really saddens me.
I was talking with some friends this past weekend during spiritual classes and brought up the birth of Jesus; how he came from such humble beginnings. Born in a simple manger surrounded by animals. Wise man came from afar to bring him their most treasured items: frankincense, myrrh, gold… following a star, a bright light pointing them toward this manger. I think about how peaceful that night must have been and how shepherds flocked. Jesus brought a gift of hope and light to the world.
What kinds of things do you think you could do to add simplicity to the holiday season? Maybe focusing in on doing things for loved ones instead of gifts of monetary value? Raising our children with these more simplistic ideas will help raise their awareness of what those around them need that goes beyond money. Be kind to a neighbour, bring food or blankets to a local shelter. Send a random Holiday Greetings card to someone from the phone book. Donate time at a nursing home. There is so much talk about “random acts of kindness”… why not let your light shine through this holiday season. It’s contagious!

How to care for your handmade soap
20. November 2009 by admin.
Handmade natural soaps are very soft. (Please note that handmade means just that. There is no “melt and pour” process. There is no glycerin in our soap.) I freshly cut and cure each piece before shipping. When using handmade soaps, there are a few simple things you can do that will help your bar of soap lasting so you get the best value.
1. Rinse all suds off your bar to allow it to dry properly
2. Place soap in a self draining soap dish so it won’t get mushy
3. Allowing your soap to dry will help it last longer, and allow the smell to stay strong
4. Despite what most think, handmade soaps can be used in the shower. Just remember to allow them to dry properly (see #2 )
